Borobudur Temple is located in Borobudur District, Magelang Regency, Central Java Province. The distance is 100 km from Semarang, 86 km from Surakarta and 40 km from DI Yogyakarta.
The history of Borobudur temple is estimated around the year 750 AD. Borobudur Temple Compounds was built by King Samaratungga of the Syailendra Dynasty, one of the great and powerful dynasties that once existed in the archipelago. Borobudur temple was built in the Mandala style that reflected the universe in Buddhist beliefs. The structure of the building is square in shape with four entrances and a circular center point. There are also 3 zones in Borobudur temple such as:
Kamadhatu: In the form of 160 wall reliefs with an explanation of Karmawibhangga Sutra (the law of cause and effect). It symbolizes the world of nature.
Rupadhatu: Consisting of relief carvings and Buddha statues. There are approximately 328 Buddhist statues with relief ornaments here. It represents the transitional world, nature where humans are free from world affairs.
Arupadhatu: This zone is a circling zone in the center of the temple, in the form of three chambers that lead to the dome in the center. This area has no relief, indicating the highest purity.
To follow the story carved in Borobudur Temple, visitors must walk clockwise from the east door. After arriving at the starting point then go up to the next level. Thus repeated until it reaches the top of Borobudur Temple. This ritual is called Pradaksina.
After arriving at the top, you point will see the Mount Sindoro and Sumbing, Menoreh Hills, Mount Merapi, and Mount Merbabu stand majestically as if circling the Borobudur temple.
