The creation of Roro Jonggrang legend is inseparable from one of the points in the history of the Prambanan temple where there was a very large earthquake and devastated the temples. This legend is also a link between these temples and Ratu Boko Palace. This legend began with Prince Bandung Bondowoso who fell in love with Roro Jonggrang, the daughter of King Boko. Bandung Bondowoso killed Raja Boko and controlled his kingdom so he could marry Roro Jonggrang who later refused the application because of what he had done.
Even so, he still insisted on marrying Roro Jonggrang who forced the daughter to accept his proposal. Roro Jonggrang, before the marriage, took place, stipulated a condition whereby Bandung Bondowoso had to make 1000 temples in one night. Bandung Bondowoso accepted the challenge and began his meditation that night. When he was meditating, he summoned hundreds of spirits and demons on Earth to help his supernatural forces, he managed to build 999 temples. When starting the construction of the 1000th temple, Roro Jonggrang woke up all the royal aides and ordered the village girls to start pounding rice and lighting a fire in the eastern part of the temple. The effort was aimed at tricking Bondowoso and its supernatural forces.
Roro Jonggrang's plan was refined with the wake of the chickens where they started crowing because they were deceived by the sounds of activity in the morning and the "sun" light, causing his demonic forces to flee. After learning of Roro Jonggrang's cunning tricks, Bandung Bondowoso was furious and condemned Roro Jonggrang to stone. This Roro Jonggrang statue then became the 1000th statue. The legend of Roro Jonggrang continues to live as the history of the Prambanan temple for people who like folklore.
