Garuda Wisnu Kencana was initiated by Nyoman Nuarta in 1989 and involved about 120 other artists with a message on it. Garuda Wisnu Kencana is a statue of Wisnu, one of the most sacred Gods in Hinduism, rides his Garuda, the mythical bird in Hindu story. Wisnu is the God of keeper or caretaker of the world in Balinese Hindu, and Garuda is His loyal rides. The message that the creator of Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue brings that hopefully Balinese people can keep and take care of the traditions of Bali in the modernization world, and still be loyal and discipline with it. Just like Wisnu who takes care of this world, and like Garuda who loyal to Wisnu.

Even though Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue is the landmark of Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, does not mean you will only see the statue when you go to this place.
